What did I do?

For the Square Card project, our goal was to create a series of engaging and informative how-to videos that guided users through setting up and using the Square Card on their mobile devices. Working closely with DYSTNCT Media and the Square Brand Team, we transformed static brand assets into dynamic motion content that was both clear and visually aligned with Square’s design system. The focus was on creating an experience that felt approachable, professional, and consistent with the brand’s modern aesthetic.

As the principal animator, I translated design assets and storyboard directions into fluid, polished motion sequences. Each video carefully demonstrated the steps for using the Square Card, while leveraging animation to clarify interactions and highlight key features. By focusing on timing, visual hierarchy, and motion rhythm, the walkthroughs became intuitive, informative guides that were easy for users to follow.

Our aim was to blend instructional clarity with motion design that reinforced Square’s approachable, modern brand identity.

Collaboration with the creative directors and brand team was critical to ensure that the videos reflected Square’s brand voice while maintaining instructional clarity. Feedback loops and iterative refinements allowed us to align visual storytelling with user needs, creating a cohesive series of assets that combined functional guidance with engaging motion design.

The Square Card video series delivered an approachable, visually polished set of guides that simplified the process of setting up and using the card. Through careful motion design, each step of the workflow was highlighted clearly, reducing potential confusion and helping users navigate the interface with confidence. The videos reflected Square’s brand standards while providing a fresh, modern look that made the content feel intuitive and engaging.

By leveraging motion to reinforce instructional clarity, the series became a resource that could be used across multiple platforms, from onboarding emails to in-app tutorials. Users were guided through each interaction seamlessly, with animations that emphasized key actions and highlighted important details without overwhelming the viewer. This careful balance of education and engagement strengthened the utility of the videos as both practical tools and brand assets.

Combining clear motion storytelling with instructional precision, the project strengthened user confidence while supporting Square’s commitment to intuitive design.

Ultimately, the project reinforced Square’s commitment to user-centered design by making the setup process approachable and visually engaging. Collaboration between the animation team, DYSTNCT Media, and the Square Brand Team resulted in deliverables that enhanced user confidence, elevated the brand experience, and demonstrated the impact of thoughtful motion design. These videos not only informed but also reflected Square’s modern, approachable identity, ensuring client success and a polished user experience. The Square Card videos turned setup and usage into a seamless, visually engaging experience that reflected the brand’s modern, approachable identity.
